Project Summary: Lead the design of a mobile application that allows users to customize and buy wall-art prints using photos from their devices.
Project Overview
Canvas On Demand operates a website that allows users to upload photos and print them on a variety of products. Stakeholders within the company launched an initiative to develop a native app for iOS and Android in an effort to add purchasing channels and improve a customer’s experience.
MY ROLE
I was initially asked to provide guidance and feedback to the firm that was outsourced to design and build the application. This evolved into becoming the project lead, mapping out the best user experience and designing the interface of the app. I was also tasked with being the internal point of contact on the Canvas on Demand team for design assets deliverables and to drive the project to set the MVP feature set of the release and subsequent improvement releases of the app.
- Design the UX / UI of app.
- Collaborate with the internal creative director to retain brand continuity throughout the project.
- Work with both internal and contracted dev teams from discovery to implementation to design the best solution, understand all of the project’s contexts, as well as feature feasibility / scope for the MVP.
- Provide mock-ups, wireframes, animation samples, and final assets as needed.
- Review, test, and approve dev progress to ensure vision was executed effectively.
- Conduct usability studies and additional research to understand if the objectives of the project was met.
- Build a backlog of features for iterative improvements to features in future releases.
- Internally drive project to ensure timely delivery of any required assets to dev teams.
- Observe iOS app guidelines including: Human Interface Guidelines, App Store Marketing Guidelines, and app approval through App Store Connect.
